Information we collect

Information you give us.

• Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address your provider shares, and we create a user ID and a username for your account. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your email address. If you sign in with Apple, we also keep a token from Apple so we can cancel that sign-in when you delete your account.
• Content you add. Bottles in your Collection, Wishlist and Past; details you enter such as size, price paid, purchase date and where a bottle came from; wears, check-ins and notes; ratings and reviews; the name on your Cabinet sign; the bottles you pick when you first open the app; and feedback you send us.
• Searches. What you type into Find, including a description of a scent you half remember. We keep it with your account so a search can finish and tell you when a bottle is found.
• Photos for label reading. If you use label reading, the photo you take or choose is sent to be read. We do not store it.

Information collected automatically.

• Usage information. Which screens you open and which actions succeed or fail, linked to your user ID and a device identifier, and an approximate location (such as city and country) that our analytics provider derives from your IP address.
• Website visits. On getolfa.com, which pages are opened, the site or link that led there, and taps on the App Store link, with an approximate location derived from your IP address. Nothing is stored on your device for this, and it is not linked to an Olfa account.
• Where you log a wear. An approximate location, such as the city, region and country, inferred from your internet connection when you log a wear, and saved with that wear. It is never your precise location, and Olfa never asks for it.
• Diagnostics. Crash reports and performance information.
• Push token. If you allow notifications, a token that lets us send them to your device.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, health information or advertising identifier.

How we use information

• To provide Olfa: your account, shelves, journal, Cabinet, reviews, Find, and the notifications you turn on.
• To personalize what Discover and the For you widget suggest, based on the bottles on your shelf.
• To learn when and where you wear each scent, and later the weather at that time and place, so Olfa can suggest what suits the day.
• To understand how Olfa is used, and to fix and improve it.
• To give perfume houses aggregated information about their own perfumes.
• To keep Olfa safe: moderating reviews, handling reports, preventing abuse and enforcing usage limits.
• To respond when you contact us.
• To comply with legal obligations.

We do not show ads, do not use your information for advertising, and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

How we share information

Service providers. These companies process information on our behalf to run Olfa. They may use it only to provide their services to us, and must protect it at least as well as this policy does:

• Supabase: sign-in and database.
• Microsoft Azure: servers.
• Cloudflare: content delivery, image storage, and the approximate location of a request.
• OpenAI: reading label photos and understanding what you type into Find.
• Amplitude: product analytics for the app and the website.
• Sentry: crash reports, performance information and feedback you send.
• Expo and Apple: delivering notifications and Live Activity updates.
• Apple and Google: sign-in.

AI processing. Label photos and the text you type into Find are sent to OpenAI only to read the label or understand your search. OpenAI does not use this information to train its models and keeps it for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse.

Other people. Reviews you publish are visible to other Olfa users with your username. Other people can see, and may copy, what you publish. Your collection, journal, notes, prices and searches are private: nobody else can see them as yours. When you choose to share your Cabinet card, the app you share it to receives it.

Perfume houses. We may share aggregated information with perfume houses about their own perfumes, such as how many people own, want, rate or wear them. This information does not identify you.

Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or Olfa.

Business transfers. If Olfa is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies

The Olfa app does not use cookies. getolfa.com does not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Your choices and rights

• Delete your account at any time in the app: Profile, Account, Delete my account.
• Notifications can be turned off in Profile, Notifications, or in iOS Settings. Camera and photo access can be changed in iOS Settings.
• Access, correction and copies. To get a copy of your information or correct it, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your account and the information tied to it, including your shelves, bottle details, wears, notes, reviews, notification tokens and settings. Some information is kept in a form that no longer identifies you: the bottles that were searched for, and your ratings, which stop counting toward a bottle's score. Reports you made about other people's reviews are kept as a record of how abuse was handled. Database backups are overwritten within 7 days. Analytics and crash records are deleted on our providers' retention schedules; you can ask us to request earlier deletion.

Security

Information is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers, and access to it is limited to what running Olfa requires. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International transfers

Olfa is operated from the United States, and our service providers store and process information there. If you use Olfa from outside the United States, your information is transferred to the United States. Where the law requires, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses in our providers' data processing terms.

Children

Olfa is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it.

Additional information for EU and UK users

We process your information on these legal bases: to perform our contract with you (running your account and the features you use); our legitimate interests (analytics, aggregated statistics, crash reporting, security and moderation); your consent (notifications, camera and photo access, and label reading), which you can withdraw at any time; and legal obligations. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your information, and to receive it in a portable format. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Additional information for California residents

We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined under California law, and do not use it for targeted advertising. You may request to know, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and we will not discriminate against you for making a request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and we will notify you in the app of material changes.
